In 2012 José Efrain Rios Montt, the former president of Guatemala, was accused of genocide and crimes against humanity in the 1980s. Regina José Galindo (b.1974, Guatemala City) reinterprets the atrocities revealed during the trial. The images denote mass graves in which thousands of men and women were dumped, often after they had been tortured or raped. Finally, Montt was convicted, but released after serving only one day.
