The installation, comprising sixteen small canvases, starts with the birth of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty, born from foam on the sea. Jan Van Imschoot (b. 1963, Ghent) takes the spectators along on a raft across the choppy sea, all the way to paradise, but then confronts them with the horror of the Holocaust. Dark humour and wordplay complete the grotesque picture.
